Bankside Hotel, Southwark Street, London SE1

We were asked by our client to design the structure to allow 2 adjacent buildings to be turned into a hotel.

Given that two additional floors were to be added, our primary concern was to avoid expensive work to the foundations and extensive reinforcement to the existing columns.

By comparing existing and proposed loads at each floor level we were able to demonstrate that the foundation loads did not increase and that the existing foundations could be re-used. We were also able to minimise the reinforcing work required to the existing columns.

Tottenham & Bennett designed the structure for two additional floors, checked the existing columns and foundations for the extra loading and designed column strengthening works and structural alterations. We also advised on the formation of numerous service holes in the structure.
